Selling ColdFusion to Clients

I am speaking on "Selling ColdFusion to Clients" at CFUNITED-07. I think ColdFusion compares well techically to Java, .Net and PHP. It is often much faster to develop in CF than other web languages - partly due to it being tag based, due to the large amount of build in functionality that has an easy to use interface (eg CFMAIL) and of course the very active ColdFusion community.

I read an interesting article on ColdFusion from a Java programmer's point of view at Clark's blog. You can consider CF to be a super Java tag library with a lot of cool features added in such as the CF admin, caching and just in time compilation. Interesting...

Also the answer depends if I am selling to a CIO, a programmer or an end user. It often seems that there is a political angle: "We are a Microsoft shop" or "We have standardized on BEA".

So what strategies do you use for selling the ColdFusion platform to clients?

Rey Bango's Gravatar Michael, once you've presented it at CFUnited, I would really love to add that as a resource to GotCFM.com. One of the main goals of GotCFM.com is to offer methods of promoting CF. Your preso would be a great addition. Let me know if you'd be okay with offering it up.

Michael Smith's Gravatar @Ray: sure happy for you to post on Got CF - I will mention the site in my talk too. Any other resources on this topic that people can suggest? Didn't Ben Forta have one somewhere?

Rey Bango's Gravatar @Michael: Thanks so much! It will be a great addition to the site. I've had a very hard time getting any types of white papers, case studies or that sort of stuff for the site. I need info that will help developers, consultants and managers position CFML technologies within their organization and/or clients. Any help you can provide would be SUPER helpful. I will be expanding the site soon to offer a tips submission capability so that folks can offer up their own suggestions and experiences.
