November's MDCFUG Lunch

MDCFUG lunch is working splendidly.  Because people have told me how much they like having it at Union Station, and at least partially because Union Station just celebrated its 100th birthday, we will hold it there again.  November 17th at 1:30 PM, I will be waiting in the Corner Bakery with my green CFUnited shirt on. Can’t wait to see you all there, and if you get the chance, wish Union Station a happy belated.

Like our monthly MDCFUG meetings at TeraTech’s Rockville headquarters, lunch is a great way to connect with other people working in ColdFusion and to discuss related issues in an informal setting.  Also like our monthly MDCFUG meetings, the MDCFUG lunch will be completely free, with exception to the price of your own food.

If you are interested in having a lunch, but are not close to the location we chose, please let us know.  All questions, comments, concerns and suggestions should likewise be directed to me, Matt Weiss, Matt (at) teratech.com.  Also, please contact me if you plan on coming so I can provide a contact number for the day of the event.  I will send out an email the morning of the lunch to remind people. Hope to see you all there!

October MDCFUG Lunch

MDCFUG’s monthly lunch has definitely been picking up speed.  People have been contacting us every month to come meet new people in the industry and make contacts and see what other people are doing with ColdFusion.  This idea has grown so much and been so successful that we plan on holding an MDCFUG Happy Hour in the very near future.  Until that happens, we are going to be having another MDCFUG meeting in October to tide you over.  (The August one was postponed to September.)  October’s lunch will be held at Union Station on Monday October 6th at 1 pm, so everyone can come despite preference or dietary needs since there are so many restaurants there.

August MDCFUG Lunch

**EDIT: Lunch scheduled for September 1st is moved to September 8th.  Same time and place applies.  Thank you to Robert Gray for pointing out my error!**

Leaps and bounds!  It seems everywhere TeraTech takes the MDCFUG lunch, we get more and more people to attend.  Last month we ate at the eatery at Union Station and people had a few comments.  One, they weren’t sure if it was upstairs near the Corner Bakery or downstairs where all the 30 or so small food shops are that we were meeting.  Two, it was brought to my attention that we are hosting the Maryland ColdFusion User Group Lunch, not the Washington DC ColdFusion User Group Lunch.

We will be having the MDCFUG Luch again at the Union Station Eatery and we will meet at 1:00 On September 1st, downstairs as close as I can possibly sit to the front of the eatery.  In other words, as close to the stairs and escalator as is humanly possible.   Again I will be in my green ColdFusion shirt, and if you plan on attending, you can email me and I will give you my cell phone number.  As for the second query regarding a Maryland lunch being held in Washington, D.C.; many people who work in Washington D.C. use ColdFusion, many more than those who live in Annapolis, and the people who have requested a lunch set up near them have done so mostly in the District.  If you are from Waldorf or Baltimore or anywhere else in Maryland and would like a lunch set up near you, don't hesitate to contact me (Matt@TeraTech.com) and we can work something out..

July's MDCFUG Lunch

Four months and still going strong, the Maryland ColdFusion User Group Lunch is still the talk of the town.  These lunches are a success because people continue to come and network with other people working with ColdFusion.

To accommodate all the different things people want to eat for lunch, we have chosen a new location for this month’s lunch.  It will be held at the food court connected to Union Station metro on Monday, July 28th at 1pm.  There are various places to eat McDonalds, Au Bon Pain, and Corner Bakery just to name a few so everyone’s taste can be accommodated.  I, Matt Weiss, will be in the main eatery cul de sac with a CFUnited 2008 shirt on to be easily identifiable.  Bring some money for food, a great attitude and plenty of business cards for the contacts you will make.

June MDCFUG Lunch

Many apologies for last months’ confusion about the date of the MDCFUG Lunch.  It seems there is an annual holiday, something called Memorial Day, that the United States Government decided should be held on the day I originally planned lunch.  The nerve!  I have done days and days of research that no such holiday will interfere with this month’s lunch being held at 1:30 pm on Monday, June 30th, that is unless you celebrate Congo’s 1960 Independence from Belgium, or the 55 year anniversary of the first Chevrolet Corvette rolling off assembly line in Flint, Michigan.  I digress.

Lunch will be held again at Potbelly’s, located at 1701 Pennsylvania Ave, NW.  It has heaps of tasty sandwiches for a really low price, so low you might want to get two.  To get there via metro, get off on the Farragut West Metro stop on the Blue/Orange Line and walk south on 17th.  The restaurant will be on your right, and I’ll be inside with a sign to let you know you’re in the right place.

May's MDCFUG Lunch

Last months ColdFusion Lunch was literally twice as successful as the previous one, with twice the amount of ColdFusion users which means twice the amount of contacts and twice the amount of fun.  In fact, because it was pouring rain outside, those there didn't want to leave, so it was almost twice as long!  In sticking with what works, this months lunch will be held on the last Monday of the month, May 26th and all are invited.  Instead of Cosi's like the previous lunches have been located at, we are now changing the location virtually across the street to Potbelly's (1701 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW).  For those who haven't heard about Potbelly's, they have awesome sandwiches made quickly for all types of tastes (pizza sandwiches, warm pb&j, etc), in addition to soup and ice cream, and it's very cheap, like $4 for a sandwich.  Plus, its a way to get out of the office on a Monday, and who couldn't get some benefit out of that!  Let me know if you plan on coming so I can send you a reminder email that morning or if you need directions.  My email is Matt@teratech.com  or give me a call 301-424-3903 x134.  Hope to see you there!

April's MDCFUG Lunch

The premiere MDCFUG Lunch was a success! There was a bit of confusion as to the location of the restaurant, but beyond that everything turned out great, and people made contacts with others using ColdFusion.

Since it was such a resounding success, we will sponsor another one. This will be on Monday, April 28th at 1:30 at the same Cosi restaurant listed at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. To get there, walk south from the Farragut West Metro station on 17th street about four blocks, and it will be on your right. You have to actually cross over Pennsylvania Avenue, and the restaurant is closer to G Street than Pennsylvania (don't be fooled and go to the Potbelly's). Like last, time I'll be sitting right near the front door with a framed sign to let people know they're in the right place.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me at MattTeratech.com or call me at 301-424-3903 x134. To those who plan to attend, if you RSVP, I will send you an email the morning of or evening before the lunch as a reminder with all information. Can't wait to see you all there!

MDCFUG Lunch Date Set

We have finally realized a date to conduct the first MDCFUG Lunch. It will be held on March 31st at 1:30 pm at the Cosi restaurant at 17 and Pennsylvania in the District. Again, this is a great way to relax and network with like-minded ColdFusion users for those who may or may not be able to come to our monthly meetings at TeraTech headquarters. If you have any questions, contact Matt at Matt@teratech.com

MDCFUG Lunch

We, as Maryland ColdFusion Users, have not been acting like a real group. While TeraTech holds monthly meetings at our offices in Rockville every second Tuesday of the month, some people live to far away to schlep all the way out here, or are just too tired to do so in the evenings. It's time to change things.

Announcing ColdFusion Lunch! For all of those who live in the surrounding areas, TeraTech will be setting up informal monthly lunches for local ColdFusion users to network and discuss (what else?) ColdFusion. These lunches will be entirely free (everyone pays for their own lunch) and are a great way to relate with people who are doing the same things you are. Our first lunch will be located at Cosi in downtown D.C. (on the corner of 17th and Pennsylvania, about 3 blocks from Farragut West Metro on the Blue/Orange lines) on a day later this month, yet to be determined. Email me(matt@teratech.com) to let me know if you're interested, and I'll make sure to keep you posted as to when the official day and time are announced.

For those unable to make it to THAT location, we are working on setting up lunches at different locations as well, (possibly North Virginia, Bethesda, other parts of D.C., etc). If you have an interest in coming to a lunch near you, let me know where you work, and we can work on setting up a lunch that people around YOUR area can meet for lunch, too. Email me (matt@teratech.com) to let me know what you think. Can't wait to see you there!
