Problem
Aggregate Industries produces high quality construction materials all over the United States, the United Kingdom, and northern Europe. They operate seven regional businesses in the US, each with its own separate HR staff. With such a large company and so many employment opportunities throughout, they needed an efficient way to organize and handle all of the job applications that they were receiving.
Previously, if someone wanted to apply for a job at Aggregate Industries, it had to be done through an online service such as Monster.com. These applications then had to be shuffled through by multiple HR staff members and finally sent as a Word document to the company’s sole Marketing and Communications Manager. TeraTech was brought in to develop an online application system on the company’s website, which would eliminate the hassles of their previous method. We were brought in to handle this because we were “the best ColdFusion resource in the area,” explains Aggregate Industries’ Marketing and Communications Manager, Joe Merlino.
Solution
Using ColdFusion, TeraTech developed an online content management system that allows applicants to post their employment applications online. Formatting is no longer a concern for applicants or for the company, since their new online system allows for standardized postings. Most importantly, the application process is now centralized. The people who make the employment decisions no longer have to deal with tons of separate documents from different people. They can pull up whatever applications they need, whenever they need them, and sort through the information more quickly than ever before.
Results
Since its inception, the online content management system which TeraTech developed has led to the posting of over 1,000 job applications on the website. Aggregate Industries’ HR staff is now able to choose their new hires from a larger applicant base, resulting in more qualified candidates for each position.
