OMNI Solutions Group
Problem
OMNI Solutions Group, Inc. (OMNI SG) provides a variety of network and software services to builders, associations, and businesses. OMNI SG’s awards program solution, omniContests (www.omnicontests.com), provides one central location for submitting, processing, and judging entries, while giving clients the ability to communicate with entrants and powerful tools to administer the contest. OMNI SG has established a reputation as the leading technology provider for the implementation of online awards program software. These award programs are high profile for OMNI SG’s clients and generate millions in revenue.
In 2006 OMNI SG had approximately 100 reports in various applications. Many of these reports were available as part of OMNI SG’s core web products and were implemented using Crystal Reports. Several of these reports were mission critical. The launching of these reports from ColdFusion was problematic and unreliable.
Solution
After doing some research, they chose TeraTech based on our “knowledge and experience” to help them migrate to CFMX7 and to improve the performance of reports in their applications. We implemented CFMX reporting modules to replace their previous approach, allowing OMNI SG’s developers to recreate their most complex and critical reports using CFMX7.
OMNI SG had a “test machine” in its production facility, where it had replicated its production environment, loaded a handful of websites, tested the sites, upgraded to CFMX7, and retested the site. TeraTech helped them to locate and resolve several coding issues in their test system and move the majority of their live websites to the CFMX7 platform. CFMX’s reporting services could then be used to deliver reports to their users.
Results
After the migration was complete, OMNI SG wanted to prepare itself with the necessary knowledge to administer their new system. We advised and mentored them on the best practices, tools, and analysis / monitoring / security approaches to using CFMX7. OMNI SG now reports their web applications and servers are most reliable and responsive. Their users are much happier too, as the time it takes to generate critical reports has been reduced to seconds instead of, in some cases, minutes.
